Contura Drywall Guideline Specifications GORDON EXTRUDED ALUMINUM DRYWALL CONTURA PERIMETER SYSTEM DIVISION 09 2216 or DIVISION 09 5436 PART 1 – GENERAL 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and General Provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections apply to this Section. 1.2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION A. Furnish and install Gordon extruded aluminum Contura drywall perimeter trim system as manufactured by Gordon, Inc. All material and workmanship shall be of the highest quality. Installation shall be in accordance with Gordon detailed instructions and specifications. 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer: Furnish components from one (1) manufacturer with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the fabrication of extruded aluminum ceiling specialties. B. Installer: Firm with no less that three (3) years of successful experience in the installation of systems similar to those required by this project and acceptable tot the manufacturer of the system. Product Data: Submit manufacturer’s product specifications, detail drawings and installation instructions got each component required. B. Submission: Must be made within ten (10) working days for the General Contract Award to avoid project delay. If not adhered to, architect will designate exact product to be used and the contractor will have no recourse. C. Samples: Submit three (3), 6” samples of Contura drywall perimeter trim in specified trim height with positive locking splices and TC-2 clip to illustrate gird interface. 1.6 SEQUENCING A. Substitute Products; Alternate proposals for substitute products will not be accepted unless approval is issued in addenda. B. Contract Execution: Submittals shall be submitted and approved prior to award of subcontract for system components. C. Manufacturer’s Production Schedule: Subcontractor for work of this section shall be planned to allow sufficient time for manufacturer’s production and delivery schedule. 1.7 WARRANTY A. General: Submit manufacturer’s warranty that materials furnished will perform specified for a period of not less that one (1) year when installed in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendation. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURER A. Furnished and installed as noted in the specification as indicated on approved shop drawings. B. The product specified herein is a standard manufactured product of the listed manufacturer. The extruded aluminum system has been carefully selected to produce functional and aesthetic consideration. 2.2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION A. Contura drywall perimeter trim including all splices, connectors and suspension and other accessories as required to provide a complete system 2.3 MATERIALS A. Contura drywall perimeter trim shall be manufactured of extruded aluminum components in (2”) (4”) (6”) (8”) (10”) (12”) or custom heights, and/or custom curved sections. Standards straight sections are 10’-0” long. Length of curved sections varies according to custom radii. All trims shall be of standard 6063T-52 or 6063-T6 aluminum alloy. B. Contura positive locking splice with allen screw attachment to insure tight joinery between straight and curved sections. C. Contura connector clip (TC-2) also has an allen screw attachment that rotates and slides into trim boss for grid interface at any angle. 2.4 FABRICATION A. Provide extruded aluminum Contura drywall perimeter trim of design, profile and function as indicated. B. Provide all parts factory curved to specified radius. C. Provide splice plates with set screws and allen screws wrench to properly secure joints and insure alignment. Gaps at joints are not acceptable when Contura trims are butted end to end. D. Provide corners required on straight sections with factory-mitered ends and/or custom factory welded as required. Corner splice plate with set screws for field joinery. 2.5 FINISHES A. Standard factory finishing of Contura drywall perimeter trim is to be Alodine conversion coat. Meets all clean air standards, Federal and State, and USDA approved. A variety of standard and custom paint finishes also available. PART 3 – EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine of surfaces: Installer must examine conditions under which work is to be performed and must notify contractor in writing or unsatisfactory conditions. B. Verify that field measurements and block-out dimensions are as shown on shop drawings. C. Certify that Contura parts coordinate with labeled shop drawings. Stains, discoloration, or other imperfections on finished units are not acceptable. All metal shall be of the tightest – commercial grade type. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. General: Comply with manufacturer’s printed instructions, governing regulations for Seismic Codes, and the Ceiling & Interior Systems Construction Association standards applicable to work. B. Install all system including suspension is compliance with ASTM C636-92, with hangers supported only from building structural members. 3.3. CLEANING A. Cleaning of factory-finished parts, if required, should be accomplished with a detergent solution such as TSP-90 or Ivory. B. Before field painting, wipe metal with dry cloth or thinner to remove dust, dirt or oils picked-up in transit, handling or installation. 3.4 PROTECTION A. Procedure: Care should be taken during the remainder of construction to protect the Contura from damage. B. Damage to finished work: Finished units shall be without damage. Damage shall be repaired by the contractor at the expense of the party damaging the material, as in accordance with the contract requirements. 3.5 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY A. Variation from the specification: Any variation from the specification resulting in additional cost to any other contractor or subcontractor on this project shall be the sole financial responsibility of the contractor for the work of this section 1
