PURPOSE & GENERAL AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Designs new products and makes improvements to existing products. May evaluate products, or parts for cost efficiency and reliability and ensure project completion. May oversee the work of other engineers. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Has a wide degree of creativity, with an underlying understanding of design concepts.
Provides Design Engineering support for all Product Teams. Serves as a Team Member and Design Engineer for all Product Groups. Ensures that the Company provides extra-ordinary service and empathy to our external Customers in a way that will cause them to become totally delighted in their business relationship with our company. Performs all duties and responsibilities in a way that provides for continual improvement of the Total Quality environment for not only the Business Unit organization, but for the entire company. Ensures that the Product Team provides total satisfaction with the product delivered to all Internal Customers. Performs duties and tasks at the highest level of quality. Takes the lead role in all Product Improvements and New Product Development for the product(s) managed by the team. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
"College" B.S. Degree in Architecture with Structural Engineering minor, B.S. Degree in Structural or Mechanical Engineering with Architecture minor or equivalent desired. A minimum of five 5-years experience in the field of Architecture, Engineering or Technical Services. Proficiency with fully integrated computer systems, Materials Requirement Planning, working knowledge of Computer Assisted Design (CAD) software, reading and interpreting Architectural Drawings, and the management of traditional Engineering functions.

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Performs in an Design Engineering support role for all Product Teams in its day-to-day activities of meeting the needs of both the External and the Internal Customer. Serves as a Resource for both External and Internal Customer Service needs.
  • Provides Design Engineering Service support for the Product Managers, for Independent Reps, for Architect's specifying our products, and for all other Customers. Provides Design Engineering Assistance in the areas of all Product Groups.
  • The use of M2M (our company's business and computer system) and compliance to established and required procedures
  • Manages Product Improvement and New Product Development initiatives for all Product Teams.
  • Assists the Product Manager in the gathering of accurate information required in the preparation of Bids, and in the Quotation Process. This includes identifying projects with unique or possible problem areas that require additional cost analysis or production capability review.
  • Ensures that all procedures are followed, with precision, and that "short cuts" that are intended to save minutes do not result in creating non-value added work downstream, lends itself to possible confusion, or result in an ambiguous specification and expectation for whatever process is required to satisfy the needs of the customer.

Specific Areas of Responsibility include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for project planning and anticipating in-process timelines which are designed to meet internal and customer timetables - Accomplish project plans on time, within budget, while meeting all specified quality standards.
  • Reviews Architectural Drawings, Specifications, and Contract Documents to determine project scope. 
  • Estimates materials requirements from take-offs, labor requirements, and creates project cost estimates which are used in the generation of bid pricing.
