In December 2016, the hiring of the Texas Longhorn’s new head coach, Tom Herman, and staff brought new changes to the football program, including renovation of their athletic facilities. In concert with the architect, Gensler in Austin, TX, Coach Herman brought to life his vision for a complete renovation of the University of Texas, Football Locker Room & Athletic Center in Austin, TX. The locker was to be a contemporary and functional room for his team to enjoy on game day that included a complete audio visual package with HDTVs with a screensaver identifying the player’s locker with his photo. According to Coach Herman, how your facilities help differentiate your program from other universities plays a significant role when athletes are deciding where to attend.

When conversations about the conceptual design and construction of the project began, a construction team was formed to develop a plan to meet the vision and completion for the project which was already under an extremely aggressive completion schedule. This team included the owner, the University; architect, Gensler; installing contractor, Baker Triangle; independent manufacturer’s representative, Specified Interiors; and manufacturer, Gordon, Inc. The normal time frame for a project of this magnitude and complexity is typically not less than 12-months. At the time Gordon, Inc. was released to begin the submittal process, less than 4-months remained until the scheduled date of the opening of the facility.

The installing contractor, Baker Triangle, worked closely with Gordon, Inc. to ensure material was phased to meet their installation schedule. As materials began to flow to the job site, construction shifts were increased to 24-hours-per-day requiring all trades working simultaneously to finish the job.

The unique wall panels were fabricated to accommodate speaker panels, access doors and penetrations for digital media devices and lighting. Due to the high traffic environment and potential for physical abuse, all products were provided in a durable powder coat finish.

As a result of Gordon, Inc. and Baker Triangle’s design assistance, quality manufacturing and precision project execution, the University of Texas and Gensler expressed pride in this distinctive sports facility... it's a TOUCHDOWN for the VICTORY! The excitement and news of this impressive locker room opening was captured in articles written in the Wall Street Journal and USA Today.
